I recently got into an argument with someone from the Brony fandom, trying to persuade me to describe myself as a Brony because I'm a fan. After trying to tell them why I don't want to be labeled by that term, they proceeded to call me "insecure," "a coward," and a "disgrace," because they didn't like my reasons for hating the label and because I wouldn't agree to describe myself by their label. Thus, they ended up proving my entire point as to why I hate the label and why I hate the fandom.

"By shunning the title that clearly describes who you are..."
That's it right there.
That line RIGHT THERE is exactly why I don't want to be called a Brony and why I don't want to be apart of your stupid fandom. :stare:
You have no right to label me or describe who I am with anything. It is my choice to describe who I want to be and nobody else's. Not you, not the fandom, not even the non-fans...NOBODY.

"I'm not forcing you to do anything. [...] I am simply hoping that my arguments will make you reevaluate how you see yourself so that what you think of yourself is more important than how others see yourself."
I am happy with who I am and how I see myself already, thank you. :stare: Who the fuck are you to tell me how I should see myself? Who the fuck are you to tell me who I need to be? I don't fucking need anybody to describe who I should be, and I don't need your stupid fan-label to be myself and make others like me. You make it sound like it's a religion instead of a silly stupid fan-gathering: "U NEED TO ACCEPT URSELF AS A BRONY 'CUZ IT'S WHO U R IF UR A FAN AND FORGET WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU."
Says the one calling me insecure, a coward, and a disgrace because I don't want to label myself a fucking Brony. :unimpressed: Can I call HYPOCRITE?

Don't push your stupid labels down my throat, which is exactly what you're doing. NO I WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT TITLE, okay? I don't want my reputation tainted by a label that more often used as an insult. I don't need people's bad views of me spreading IRL too, you know. I can ruin my reputation all by myself without any help, thank you. :stare:

Just because I'm a fan does not mean I want to be a part of your fandom. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. SO FUCK YOU VERY MUCH AND HAVE A NICE DAY. :iconfuckyoubyeplz:

When people start rejecting the term, it creates a downward spiral, potentially splitting the fandom into fragments. I agree that you have the right to reject the term if you must, but not much good can come of it.

I agree. I don't want that stupid label, either. I love the show and admire the character design. If this had come out when I was kid, I would have loved it better than the first gen MLP cartoon. I have also loved the first gen ponies and have many fond memories playing with them.

But...damn. What puts a taint to this nostalgic enjoyment is the obsessive nature of the MLP: FIM fandom. Not only is it bizarre but disturbing. I try to understand, but I still I find it difficult to wrap my head around why the latest generation has triggered such an obsessive passion to the point where fans are acting more like cult members than fans.

Also, the "Love and Tolerate" mantra annoys the hell out of me because its meaning has been twisted and abused. Nothing sets off the creeper alarm like the phrase "I'll Love and Tolerate the hell out of you." This triggers for me the mental picture of some guy snatching you into an unwelcome bear hug and squeezing the air out of you like a boa constrictor.

I doubt the rabid fandom will ever get it that their conduct drives those who like MLP:FIM away and alienates those who may be interested. If I had kids I would keep them away from the fandom.

That's exactly why I don't want to associate with the label. The fans are so overzealous, almost arrogant, about the cartoon, I'm ashamed to even like it. Some even go as far as threatening violence and going against the entire meaning of the show, just because someone says something bad about it. Not to mention, the "cloppers" and R34. I've had to warn the 13-year-old girl I used to babysit to avoid that dark side to the fandom like the plague when she's surfing the Web for MLP stuff.

And I'm not even a very active fan, so why would I join a fandom when I hardly do anything in it? I just like watching the show because the story to it is rather appealing, it's very cutesy, the character design is adorable, it has its comical moments, and the characters themselves are often hilarious. So I just want to watch the show for what it was made for, which is entertainment.

I don't think I have much else to say except that the behavior is off putting.

I'm a mellow fan of the show. I'm entertained by it. But I'm cautious about putting more in there than what is really there. The characters are better written and you can relate to them better, and it's better than the previous MLP cartoons. It's the good type of cute, the squee-able type for some. Also, the show's not the center of my universe. I love variety and I would be bored if that was the only thing I could devote my life to. There's other great animation out there to be appreciated, some even better than the show.

I guess another way to see the rejection of the label is to apply it to another fandom. I like Star Trek, but I don't think or even consider myself a Trekker. The same can be said with Doctor Who. To me, most fan labels suck, it's like being given an embarrassing nickname you can never live down and will haunt you to your grave.

I am all of these and more, and I'm proud.

You don't need labels, but it's nice to have them sometimes- to find people with common interests and such. If you don't like them, that's perfectly fine.

I dislike MLP so much, but what I dislike the most are the ones that label themselves as bronies. They are annoying and have the bad habit of shoving their shit down other people's throats. Good thing you don't want to be labeled as a brony :) that makes you a sane person.
That also reminds me of the "Frostitues", the people (girls, who am I kidding) that love the "Jack Frost fandom", nope, not "Rise of the Guardians fandom", just the "Jack Frost fandom".
My best friend was even ashamed to be a "frostitude", when I told her she wasn't a "frostitude", Jack Frost was just one of her favorite characters.

The term "brony" does not make you a sane or insane person, it(usually) shows that you are affilated with the MLP fandom.

It used to. But things that are of no harm tin the internet quickly change their whole meaning.
Now, it describes a super insane mlp fan.

A shame that you feel that way.
