Description
As a writer, this is one pet-peeve that drives me absolutely fucking nuts, where I get the urge to hit people in the face with a dictionary.
I was in a recent argument with someone who thought trolling was "posting false messages."
Not exactly. :/
According to Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia, trolling is "trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness" ([link]) or posting "inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response." ([link])
In simpler words, it's posting a provocative message to purposely make someone upset.
But like most people who don't like to be proven wrong, they went on to say that I "should use a dictionary," and that scamming and trolling is the same thing.
I need to use a dictionary? Okay. Then please continue talking about how you know what those words mean, while I go look up the accurate definitions myself to throw at your face.
The last time I checked, "scamming"/"hoaxing" is posting false messages that obviously aren't true.
Then to make themselves appear even more hypocritical and illiterate, they replied with "I'm blocking you for spamming me"....when I was just stating facts. Not deliberately posting the same message over and over again, which is what spam is.
...I actually got a headache from being in that argument.
For the love of God and all that is holy, people, please learn/look up what the definition of a word is, before using that word in your dialogue.
When you act like a Know-It-All and actually give the wrong definition of a word you think you know, I'm going to shove an actual printed dictionary in your face (or throw a bunch of links to online dictionaries), because you're such a fucking hypocrite and you look really stupid.
Especially when you're a writer.
Really, it doesn't look good on your reputation if you don't have a good sense of vocabulary and you obviously don't know what the words you're saying actually mean. I'm constantly looking up unfamiliar words that I'm given, before I reply to the person. Hell, I used to go through my favorite books and write down unfamiliar words that I found, to look up their definitions later....in case I wanted to use the words myself in my own writing.
God forbid you're a writer and you have never touched a dictionary.

That reminds me to a guy who hates MLP, and when I stated that I'm a brony he called me a pedophile.
Also when people is calling clopping beastiality I just tell them "Wiki is your girlfiend". I'd rather call that Xenophilia or Scheidaphilia.
