Description

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION FIRST.

Seriously, this isn't like being forced to read the Terms of Service whenever you sign up for something, okay?! It would really be great if people didn't make me repeat myself a hundred times over if they had already read the description in the first place.

EDIT: If I get snarky with you in my first response, it's either A) your attitude is incredibly rude, and/or B) you clearly didn't fucking read the description first. :smoking:

EDIT #2: I guess it's official. White people can't be proud of themselves. We have to feel ashamed because we're white. Otherwise, we're racist. :|

EDIT #3: I love how my point in this is still flying right over people's heads.

----
A few radfems are still flipping shit over something I reblogged a few months ago that had a very good point that a lot of people fail to notice, so I'm going to see if I can dumb it down a bit more:

It's okay to be proud of your uncontrolled traits like your skincolor or sexuality...Except if you're white and/or straight/cis. If you're proud about those traits, then you're automatically a racist/white supremacist/homophobe.

Here's an example:
Non-white/gay/trans person: "I'm proud to be [insert ethnicity/sexuality/gender] because it's how I was born."
Everyone else: "YAY! GOOD FOR YOU! EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL PROUD OF WHO THEY ARE!"
White person: "I'm proud to be white because it's how I was born."
Everyone else: "OMFG HOW DARE YOU?! YOU WHITE SUPREMACIST!!1! OPPRESHUN!!1!" :iconthatsracistplz:

...Does anybody notice anything wrong with that example? :iconyoumustbenewhereplz:
Because that's the point that old Tumblr post was trying to say. And yet, I'm still getting called a "white supremacist" because I understood it and agreed with it...People don't seem to realize that by condemning white people for being comfortable with their race, they're basically implying that white people shouldn't feel proud about how they were born, where being white automatically makes you racist...Even though you could really be perfectly fine with anybody who's non-white.

While I do agree that whites and heteros shouldn't have a "pride" day/week/month/movement because they're hardly ever oppressed for those traits and they're not a minority, what's wrong with being proud of those traits too? Everybody should be proud of how they are born as. To enforce the double-standard that it's fine to show pride but only if you're non-white or non-straight/cis, then you are technically causing others to feel ashamed about traits they have no control over.

I'm asexual, but white and cis. And I'm fine with being white and cis. But that doesn't mean I hate non-whites or non-cis people. It's not like I can magically change my skincolor and sexuality...Right?

Besides...

It is possible to be proud of your traits...And still respect other people's traits.

That's the difference between a racist/supremacist/homophobe...and simply expressing how comfortable you are about your own traits.
